Seller's Market

The shadows have almost stopped moving
this house is clearing out
the warmth has left
your warmth fading
brick by brick we built
the floors creaked
the door was warped
but it still let us in
let us in together
houses built of wind
a directionless wind that we tried to guide
The foundation was strong
sturdy
but after years the pilings get cracks
the veneer of everything becomes blemished
tarnished with time and distance
sweeping the stairway, the dust had piled up
clutter and cobwebs, did I just not notice
was this house meant for both of us
perched on clouds, who's dream is this
the fireplace needs your warmth
it is fueled by you, by everything you are, everything you bring kindling and kindness
You are my heart, an escape from the cold
that cold that is everywhere
storm clouds loom with disaster, thunder rumbles in their bellies
Will this house shelter us, is fear the only thing keeping us inside
This is our home, it is a seller's market
But this is our home
Too much time, tears, and trust poured into the very concrete that binds these walls together
I know every inch of this house, I have made my home here
I love every inch of this house
corners have memories, this outlet played our song
These rooms can't be emptied
But Time invested should not be a reason to stay,
That can't be the only reason, say you can't see the fire burning anymore, the pilot light is out
It is a seller's market
don't sell yourself short
The boxes from our home will be stacked to the stars
so much that came out of there
a garage sale of the past, boxes and pieces of us, portraits smile
i will smile from your self storage
I can't sell this house
