Poe's cavern
his hair was matted to one side, the pillow attacking him while he slept. He stretched and yawned before his feet hit the cold hardwood floor. He already missed his burrow of covers and warmth. He slowly dressed and staggered down the stairs into the kitchen. His eyes were still blurry, the newness of the day too much to register, sight kickis in later than you would think. For now he peered through his foggy lenses and squinted from the brightness of the kitchen lights. He could smell the coffee brewing, his parents greeted him with cheery smiles and those up and at em attitudes. That's how his mom used to get him out of bed when he was still in school. The sanctity of his cave invaded by light and smiles, "Wake up Poe up and at em." Now they just said good morning and asked him what his plans for the day were. He should have stayed in bed until they had left. "You heard anything about those jobs you applied for?" His dad asked his eyes barely visible over the morning paper. "Nope not yet dad, they should get back to me in a couple days." He really didn't want them to call but he needed a job. "Maybe you should call them." His dad stated it in a way that made Poe not want to do it. That rebellion from the old days churning, he needed to get out of here he thought to himself. "Yeah I will, i don't think they are doen with all of their interviews though." They could very well have been but this would get them off his case he figured. "Well you should call them anyways, let them know you are interested." His dad was still engrossed in some story about the russian spacecrafts, either that or the new monkey that was just born at the zoo. "Am I really that interested in working at a video store?" He didn't really want to say this, it was like asking for a lecture. "Hey you need to be interested in working anywhere, we didn't put you through college just so you could come back home and mooch of us." Yep just what he expected, he needed to learn how to keep his mouth shut. He had always had a problem with this, especially when it came to bickering with his parents. "Alright, alright I'll give em a call." I surrender he yelled, he didn't want them to point out how useless he was, he already felt it. He was buried under this massive structure of confusion, misdirection, and un-motivation. He had talked about this with his brother a couple months earlier. His brother who was older had already gone through it all. He told him that people always just think about college and then after college it's career time. He said that people never think about that period in between college and your career. "Listen man people don't realize this shit, they think that it is a smooth transition, but trust me it kinda sucks." "It was kind of a dark time for me, you know you are confused, what the fuck am i going to do? where do i want to work? Where am i going to live." "I mean most people don't know exactly what they want to do when they get out of college, it's perfectly normal for you to feel a little lost, just know that you'll figure it out, don't freak out you know?" He did know but he might have been taking this period a little too well. He wasn't concerned at all, he figured he would figure it out and poof life is set on the correct path. His brother had gotten lucky, he was just at a bar when he met a girl who got him his first real job. He loved it and from that point on it was his career. The shit he was interviewing for in no way resembled a career path. Manager of blockbuster? he wondered how much they made and if the free movies would be enough for him to alphabetize and restock dvds for the rest of his life. Retail and food service, these were highschool jobs, he was way past that stage. He jumped on the couch sweeping his feet out from under himslef and landing hard on the bouncy sofa. His parents had left for work so he was alone with the morning shows which consisted mostly of courtroom stuff and soap operas. he knew he wan't meant to be home at this time, he couldn't watch this shit.........
